D2 ORTHOTICS | History + Benefits
So this is where it all began...
Back in 1986 no one made a cycling shoe that worked with orthotics. Actually no one else understood the need for orthotics in cycling shoes.
I had been making orthotics for ski boots for over 10 years and decided to try them in my cycling shoes. After fitting orthotics in my own shoes I noticed that my feet felt more solid on the pedals and my knees were positioned better. My right foot still felt a bit like it wanted to slide off to the outside of the pedal; a little fore-foot valgus fixed that!
I made orthotics for some more people with great success. The only problem was fitting them into shoes that were not designed to accept orthotics. They had no extra room. Back then most bike shoes were wood or leather soles with little or no insole to remove to make room for the new custom orthotics. Today most cycling shoes have removable insoles that can be replaced with orthotics.
Better knee alignment
You can see in the picture to the right that
the orthotic mates perfectly with the carbon sole.
